BARTOW, Fla. (Aug. 10, 2026) – Polk County will host a free Environmental Seminar from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Aug. 24, at the Polk County Emergency Operations Center, 1890 Jim Keene Blvd. in Winter Haven.
The seminar is open to personnel from federal, state and local government facilities, as well as employees of businesses and organizations of any size that manufacture, use or store hazardous materials or hazardous waste.
Participants will be presented with information and resources to clarify regulatory requirements, properly manage hazardous materials and waste, enhance workplace safety and avoid potential violations and fines. The goal of the seminar is to help participants gain the knowledge to achieve and maintain compliance.
Topics will include:
- Federal and state regulations applicable to various industries
- Categories of hazardous waste generators
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Generator Improvements Rule
- Recordkeeping requirements
- Ways to enhance workplace safety
- Resources and assistance available to facilities with hazardous materials or waste management questions
Proper management of hazardous materials and waste can help businesses and organizations protect their employees, the public and the environment while remaining in compliance with applicable regulations. This free seminar provides participants with an opportunity to ask questions and learn about resources available to help them meet those responsibilities.
